Spy photographers have captured a new prototype of the 2026 Mazda CX-5, this time representing the European-market version undergoing testing in Germany. At first glance, it looks nearly identical to the North American model.
Mazda is preparing to unveil the next-generation CX-5, following nearly nine years of the current second-gen model, which debuted in 2016. Prototypes have been spotted in Los Angeles and Germany, signaling that the best-selling SUV is nearing its official launch.
Despite the camouflage, the latest prototype appears production-ready. The 2026 CX-5 retains its signature silhouette while introducing fresh design elements.
At the front, slimmer, curved headlights connect to the grille—reminiscent of the Mercedes EQC. The simple bumper design features a single air intake, while squared wheel arches resemble the CX-50 but with a cleaner plastic trim. The rear sees more dramatic updates, including sharp, futuristic taillights inspired by Mazda’s latest CX-60, CX-70, CX-80, and CX-90 models. A large tailgate, additional cladding, and dual exhaust outlets complete the look.
Inside, expect premium materials, a modern layout, and Mazda’s latest tech from its larger models. The SUV will be powered by newly developed self-charging hybrid engines. Additionally, next-gen Skyactiv engines are set to debut in 2027.
The official reveal is expected in the coming months, with the 2026 CX-5 arriving in North America shortly after.
