Eight months after Honda unveiled its Ye S7 model designed exclusively for the Chinese market, the production version has now officially launched. The starting price for the S7 is 259,900 yuan, roughly $35,800.
Interestingly, the production model has dropped the “Ye” from its name and is now simply called the S7. The car sports a bold and distinctive design, making it stand out in a way no other Honda model outside of China does. The S7 is the result of a joint venture between Honda and Dongfeng, and it’s set to compete with models like the Tesla Model Y and Zeekr 7X.
Performance and Range
The S7 is built on a dedicated EV platform and comes equipped with an 89.8 kWh battery. The base model features a single electric motor producing 268 hp, powering the rear wheels — a setup that should be more than sufficient for everyday driving. This variant offers an estimated range of 650 km on China’s CLTC cycle.
A dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variant is also available. This model adds an extra 201 hp to the front axle, boosting the total output to 469 hp. While the added power and weight reduce the range slightly to 620 km, this figure remains impressive for most drivers.
Dimensions and Design
The S7 measures 4,750 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,625 mm in height, with a notably spacious wheelbase of 2,930 mm. Its 193 mm ground clearance places it in the compact to mid-size SUV category, though its wheelbase is comparable to or even longer than some full-size SUVs. For comparison, the Honda Pilot has a shorter wheelbase of 2,891 mm.
Interior and Technology
Inside, the S7 emphasizes technology and luxury. A 12.8-inch infotainment screen is positioned at the center of the dashboard, while a 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster is placed directly in front of the driver. Traditional side mirrors have been replaced with cameras and door-mounted screens for improved visibility and aerodynamics.
The S7’s interior also features dual glass roof panels for an airy feel. For an enhanced audio experience, a 16-speaker Bose sound system with headrest-integrated speakers is available as an option.
